In an ideal world, we would eat a nutrient-dense, naturally healthy diet, and supplements would be unnecessary. But at its best, the American diet is woefully inadequate. Healthy saturated fats, so necessary to growth and to a healthy immune system, are scarcely available, while foods containing highly processed vegetable oils destructive to fat soluble vitamins and their processes in the body are ubiquitous. Back in 1992, a survey indicated that 50 percent of Americans consume only 19 percent or less of the recommended amount of Vitamin A. Weston A. Price invariably found that traditional foods of healthy peoples were ten times as rich in nutrients as those we eat today. Even if you are eating only organically grown foods, the onslaught of toxic chemicals from the manufacture and use of plastics, petrochemicals, and gasoline engines, the drift from incinerator burning and factory farm spraying -- our bodies are being overwhelmed with substances that nature never dreamed of. Thus, the need today for natural, high quality food supplements. John Scileppi, L.Ac. |
