Who We Are

Sources of Natural Wisdom

In his studies of both western and Oriental medicine, John has seen that the principles necessary to maintain a healthy individual and a healthy society are universal truths. Thus, all healthy societies have (1) developed an effective healing arts system, and (2) maintained the health of individuals and their society by living in harmony with Nature's bounty. These two truths were further borne out in the work of Dr. Weston A. Price, a dentist who during the 1930s investigated the diets of traditional peoples. His findings brought new meaning to the concept of holistic health.

For some ten years, Weston A, Price traveled to isolated parts of the globe to study the health of populations untouched by Western civilization. While his goal was to study the factors responsible for good dental health, he also discovered the principles of good overall health. Wherever he went-from sequestered villages in Switzerland and Gaelic communities in the Outer Hebrides to Islander groups in the Polynesian South Sea and tribes in Africa and Australia he found that people eating a traditional diet of natural foods had both beautiful teeth and overall robust health. His discoveries and conclusions are presented in his classic volume, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration.

It is noteworthy that this overall robust health was usually accompanied by an amiable and peace loving disposition and that the cooperation among the peoples ensured that their societies sustained themselves. All past societies and civilizations have collapsed for the same reason: their divergence from Nature's principles and the collapse of their agriculture.

Agriculture is the true basis of all economies. By using non-sustainable agriculture, which requires 30 calories of petrochemical input (fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and fuel) to produce one calorie of food, we in America are destroying our land and our health. Sustainable agriculture, on the other hand, uses land, animals, water, and plants to produce healthy food, yet does not deplete the land. Independent, sustainable family farms are the guardians of our health, for healthy farms with healthy soil produce healthy food. Healthy food in partnership with non-invasive healing arts ensure optimum health for our own and future generations.

The migration in America today is no longer from the East to the frontiers of the West. It is from the city to the country. The new frontier is the small community that is based on the sustainable family farm.

In his personal life, John and his family have made these theoretical principles of good health a living practice. His family farm is run under the principles of Biodynamic Farming and provides for his family clean air, pure spring water, and wholesome food: organic fruits and vegetables, grass-fed animals, raw milk cheese and butter, fertile eggs, and free-range chickens.John's devotion to helping people achieve and maintain vibrant health and well-being is reflected in his "teach by example" lifestyle.
